How do you measure a planet ?

There should be a word for those moments when you don't realize what just happened until about two hours later, when you're quietly going about..
I'm standing in the doorway, holding her in my arms. She gives me one last kiss, then steps out into the hallway, her eyes clinging to mine, perhaps waiting for me to say something. All I can come up with is:

"We'll talk"

With a sad smile she backs away, then rolls down the stairs and out of the building.

There should be a word for those moments when you don't realize what just happened until about two hours later, when you're quietly going about your regular business, making dinner and then suddenly it hits you and you find yourself sitting down for a couple of minutes forgetting all about the food that's burning and spilling all over the hot plates..

"...because it's the last time"

Some things are hard to quantify..
How do you measure a planet ? Better yet, how do you measure a friendship ? A relationship ?

You might suggest time as a measure..
Time spent ? Time enjoyed ? Time you would like to spend if it were up to you ?

Then how about depth..
How many laughs ? How many fights ? Frequency of the fights ? Seriousness of the fights ?

Or perhaps strength..
What did you go through together ? How hard is it for you to reconnect if you haven't seen each other or talked for months ?

I guess my point is this: Of all things in the universe, planets are rather easy to measure.

The big fat lady was singing at the top of her lungs on this chapter of my life, and reality was too busy to remind me that I should have taken one last good look at her before she walked out. In the absence of photographs, only memory can preserve what used to be us long after we've moved on to new adventures.
So goodbye petite, it's been a hell of a ride, but now it's time for you to go into that little box with your name on it. I'll be missing you, truly.

Oh Fadi...this brought tears to my eyes...I'm sorry to hear that.

Me too!
"We'll talk" must have sucked for her to hear. I hope she knows that later on food got burnt, and it wasn't as simple as, "we'll talk".

Damn... but "c'est la vie", I guess.

Fadi..you have no idea how you've touched me with this post. Your thoughts, feelings, emotions are tangible.

When the fights outnumber the laughs, its time to let go...just had the same experience not so long ago...
