I Create Monsters. Mostly good ones.

My name is Niklas. Niklas Andersson.
Knowing this will be of no consequence to either of us; if we ever meet I will present myself under one of my many aliases. I will lie to your face, and you won't be able to tell. Don't hold it against me, it's just something I do. Call it a work etiquette if you will.
For formality's sake however, and to help you take me seriously now, I've given you my real name. My parents' choice of name for me was, I must admit, quite uninspired, which makes what I'm about to tell you all the more strange.

I could tell you I'm a consultant, but that would be a partial lie.
In a way I am, just not the kind of consultants you're used to encountering. I don't exactly know what my job is until it's done, and quite frankly knowing that the job is done is quite difficult and presents very few certainties. I don't know who my clients are until I'm already working with them for a while, and even then, they're not entirely clients as much as they are friends. Naturally, they never know they are clients.

I create monsters. Mostly good ones.

I change people. I find a hidden detail inside of them that will forever alter their lives, and just like that, a few weeks later, I look at them again, with all the difference that little detail has made, and it makes me think:

"I've Created a Monster"

Now you see where I get the name for it. I'm telling you this against my better judgement and each and every one of my principles, which until now I have made sure never to break. However things have changed recently, and so I have to change the rules.

I create monsters, yet I'm flesh and blood just like you. Think of me as a kind of twisted version of the Greek muse. I don't have an authority to answer to, and quite frankly nobody ever told me about my abilities. How did I come to be? Let's just say that when you've changed someone's perspective on music only to find out he had a huge untapped talent he would grow to be famous for, or encouraged a friend notorious for always being on the safe side to take a leap of faith that would turn him into the entrepreneur he is today, it somehow makes you think about the effect you have on people. Then you look into your past friends' present lives, and see traces of you in most of them, and you realize that you have the power to push people whichever way you want.

And so I do. Without a handbook I must add.

So where do you come in, and why am I telling you all of this?
Last week, I heard of one of my clients' death, only two years after I had unlocked his passion for chemistry.
He died at the hands of the local anti-terrorism unit.
I know my clients, and when one of them plans a bombing in support of a political cause, I take it seriously, especially that this particular client had no interest in politics when I worked with him.

Here's where you come in: I know you're out there.
For all I know you've been tracking me, and in that case I'm certain you're reading this. I just want you to know, that there are at least two of us out there, and apparently we see things differently.
I hope you're up for a challenge, because starting now the world is our playground. I create monsters, and I'm very good at it.

Let the games begin!

Hi Fadi! My first time visiting your blog :D I didn't know you write that good!
I like this article and I can say I'm one of the monsters you have created. If you don't get it, think about this morning. :) in the future there will be times when you hate me and vice versa. Today you hated me, but for your record I still like you too!
