Stirring Muddy Waters

I wrote this article a while back, but decided not to publish it. Today I changed my mind.
There are few things that have the power to bring you back to a younger you. For me, this time, it was a pair of eyeglasses. You see this all started with an accidental football kick that slammed me right in the face and broke my eyeglasses, which meant I had to use my old pair to get around for a while. Naturally, looking at myself in the mirror for the first time brought the inevitable "What the hell was I thinking when I bought those ?" question to mind, but after a few days of letting my facial hair go wild, I started noticing that I was accidentally going back to an older version of myself.
And then, in the strangest of coincidences, something came up in an online conversation.
Something that belongs to that time when I still wore those glasses.
There are layers to each and everyone of us. As we grow up, we tend to cover up the old with a nice new layer that we like. Sometimes, we start anew without cleaning up our old messes, and so we slowly find ourselves with quite a lot of dirt deep at the bottom of us, where almost nothing can find it.
But dirt wants to be found, and when it is, it'll feel like someone passed a blender right through your soul, and stirred your entire self until you were nothing but mud. If you're wondering what I'm talking about, try to remember the last time somebody brought up a touchy subject, and you felt as if your intestines were all crammed up in a giant knot.

So I'm writing tonight, because I can't sleep with all this mud, and won't talk to the girl who owns the dirt. I guess I'll just wait for the waters to settle, bury this dirt right back where it was, and leave it at that. If I'm lucky, I'll get my glasses back soon, and put this whole trip behind me.

Besides, the dirt isn't going anywhere... I could always clean it up later...
